The descendants of Robert S. Hicks and Juliaet Carmikel gathered for an annual reunion, Sunday September 2, 2001 at Moody Elementary cafeteria. This reunion has occurred on the Sunday before Labor Day at various places through the years. Approximately 60 were present.

Robert, Juliaet, twin daughters, Eliza and Hannah and son, Robert, Jr., came by covered wagon from Tenn. to Texas in 1875. The children were dressed in red so they could be spotted easily as they traveled. Robert and Juliaet had 10 children, 8 reaching maturity. Five sons and three daughters, "Robert Hicks founded the Willow Grove Community southeast of Moody. He acquired land, established the community and raised their families there. Robert then moved to Moody and left the men on the land to farm. He claimed he could go to the top floor of his home in Moody and with his long army spy glass, he could see what they were doing on the farms. Spy glass being a holdover from the civil war, where he served as an aide to General Robert E. Lee," Bobbie Phillips Fischgrabe, family genealogist said. “Ruby Hicks Miller (Robert's granddaughter) told me Robert had the first telephone and first phonograph in the Willow Grove Community. Also one of the first to own a car, a bright red topless two-seater.”
